It was a fine sunny day. Every Wednesday, there will be some stay-back-in-school thingy called IRS. And between the dismissal at 12 and the IRS at 2, we'll have 2 hours of fun. Yup, 2 hours of lunch, drinks, ice and freeze, running, fun. All without teachers.
And during that two hours on that fine sunny day, we committed a sin. All of us were in it. A sin that could not be forgiven...for we had taken an innocent life by torturing it.
It all started when we were having fun at the big pond. There was a stone walkway across the width of the pond, where there were water cress floating in a corner and koi swimming around. One of us then discovered a caterpillar squirming around chomping on a water cress leaf. And when we lifted the water cress, we saw a few butterfly eggs. Our minds then told us we were kids and we decided to carry the water cress and bring it over to where the koi was.
And then the caterpillar was inhumanely shook down into the pond, where it wriggled helplessly. The koi realised it was there and began poking at it. So we used a leaf and brought it over to the side, in an attempt to let it climb up and be saved.
At that point in time only a few of us were left on the stone walkway. So I left. A few minutes later I returned to the pond and was told that...
It had drowned.
And so we mourned the worm:
Worm, O Worm, we would bow down to apologise... We have caused your existence to perish... May you forgive us for commiting this sin... As we are truly sorry... Not afraid to be punished by God... You were innocent, but we harmed you... You were helpless, but we tortured you... Your life was at risk... And yet we went on with our mindless act... I would shed a tear to think of you... I would bow down to say sorry to you...
All I want to say...
Is that we, all of us in the class, truly love you.
Please forgive us.
